HERE’S WHAT WE CAN DO TOGETHER

FSGV’s Counselling & Trauma Services Program provides a spectrum of counselling services (free and fee-for-service) for the community, including a number of specialized services in collaboration with community partners and funders. The STV (Stopping the Violence) program provides free counselling to women who have experienced sexual assault, violence/abuse in relationships, or childhood sexual abuse.

Position Profile

In this 21 hours per week, salaried, 6 month term position, you will provide screening, counselling and support services to adult women in the Vancouver area who have experienced violence in relationships, sexual assault and/or childhood abuse.

  • One 21 hours per week, 6 months term position available (in Vancouver)
  • Successful completion of criminal record check is a condition of employment
  • Office location: 4th floor, 1638 E. Broadway, Vancouver, BC
  • Some evening work required

WHAT YOU BRING

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Masters Degree in Counselling or Social Work (RCC or MSW)
  • Must be registered with a professional body in the province of BC and qualified to supervise Masters-level intern students.
  • Additional education/training in Somatic Therapies, EMDR and/or other models of current best practices in the theory/treatment of trauma, as well as education/training facilitating psycho-educational trauma groups

Job Specific Experience and Knowledge
Minimum 3-5 years experience working in a counselling capacity with women who have experienced violence in relationships, sexual abuse and/or childhood abuse. Must include the following knowledge and expertise:

  • High degree of knowledge in the areas of sexual abuse, domestic violence, historical child abuse and trauma.
  • Advanced knowledge of, and ability to address themes of vicarious trauma
  • Proficiency in assessment and individual counselling from a feminist perspective
  • Experience working with the LGBTQ2S community
  • Proficiency in advocacy work
  • Awareness of community resources and systems
  • Ability to consider and construct practices which acknowledge and incorporate the experiences of persons who are marginalized
  • Ability to effectively address trauma responses, including PTSD
  • Ability to maintain a caseload of 5 clients per workday
  • Training and experience facilitating psycho-educational groups for trauma survivors
