ABOUT DIRECTIONS YOUTH SERVICES

Directions Youth Services provides 24/7 support to at-risk, homeless, and street-involved youth under 25. Vancouver’s most vulnerable youth can connect with supports, get counselling for trauma, mental health or substance issues, and transition to more permanent housing. Directions operate several facilities and programs for youth throughout Vancouver.

Directions is a division of Family Services of Greater Vancouver (FSGV), which for 90 years has provided trauma counselling and essential resources for children, families and individuals facing all kinds of life’s challenges.

JOB SUMMARY

The Afterhours Supervisor coordinates the daily program functions of After Hours Addictions Response Program; provides supervision and support on the floor to front-line staff, students and work directly with at-risk, street entrenched and homeless youth. The After Hours Addictions Response Program operates between the hours of midnight and 8:00am over seven days a week and between the hours of 8:00am and 4:00 Saturday, Sunday and Holidays. This is a one year term position working full time, 35 hrs/wk, and reports to the Program Manager: Directions Youth Service Centre

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the assigned program(s). Coordinate and evaluate programming to ensure clients’ needs and required staffing levels are being met. Ensure the program continues to run effectively by problem solving during crisis, and prioritizing issues, duties and responsibilities
  • Provide on-the-floor support to staff; deliver front-line services to clients including assessments, action plans, restrictions, access, counseling, and referral.
  • Ensure staff duties are completed; standards, guidelines and policies of the agency are maintained. Participating in internal integrated case management system and ensuring appropriate information is passed on to weekly meetings in collaboration with Afterhours team.
  • Respond to overdoses in the centre, enacting resuscitation procedures when necessary. Provide harm reduction psycho education to community members and staff, including the distribution of naloxone.
  • Provide supervision and oversight to Extreme Weather Response and Directions Winter shelter programs.
  • Create and manage the monthly program schedule including relief coverage for all FT staff in drop-in, monitor attendance, approve payroll and time off requests, coordinate with HR and Payroll to ensure accurate pay and tracking of time.
  • Assist and conduct recruitment, development and facilitation of training and supervision of staff and volunteers. Includes participation in evaluation of staff performance and professional development.
  • Act as senior representative during the Assistant Managers and/or Manager’s
  • Authorize expenditures within the existing assigned budget(s) and make budget recommendations.
  • Ensure the highest professional standards of ethics and confidentiality.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education and training

  • Bachelor’s degree in related human/social services field
  • Combination of applicable education and relevant experience will be considered
  • First Aid, Food Safe level 1, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certificates are assets

Experience

  • Have worked with street youth for at least 5 years
  • Trained or experienced in addictions and youth work
  • Experience in case management
  • Knowledge of mental illness
  • Thorough knowledge of adolescent development, at-risk youth and the child welfare system
  • Excellent organizational, time management, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Driver’s license and abstract required

Work Hours: Sunday 8am-4pm, Monday (admin day) hours are flexible, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday are overnight shifts 12am – 8am.

Salary/Pay Grade: GS 9 Step 1 – $1,737.40 bi-weekly

Location: Directions Youth Centre – 1138 Burrard St. Vancouver
