Neighbourhood Small Grants provide up to $500 for local residents to strengthen their community by bringing people together, sharing skills and knowledge, celebrating diversity, and increasing people’s sense of belonging. The grant is based on a simple but powerful idea—that everyone is a valuable member of the community and that we all have something to share.

In New Westminster, the grants are provided through a partnership between FSGV and the Vancouver Foundation, which created the program.

Local residents can come up with all kinds of creative ideas to bring people together. Previous years’ projects ranged from potlucks and clothing swaps to neighbourhood walking tours and multicultural cooking classes. Other ideas include harvest festivals, music groups, and art workshops. To ensure inclusivity, events must be free of charge to all participants.
