Feeling overwhelmed when it comes to money–or the lack of it? Whatever your situation, we can help empower you to make the most of your money! At this free workshop, you’ll learn about growing your income, budgeting, banking, credit, debt, goal-setting, saving, investing, and more. You’ll learn new skills, be empowered to have an improved relationship with your money, and more able to invest in your future.

Do You or Your Child Have A Disability? RDSP Workshop

Having a disability–or a child with a disability–can be a huge financial challenge. How to save for you or your child’s future? This free workshop will help you learn all about Registered Disability Savings Plans (RDSPs), including how to start an RDSP account at the bank, how to add money to it over time, and how to access the government funding to match and top up what you save.

You’ll also learn about the government’s Disability Tax Credit; how it works with RDSPs; how you can invest your savings within an RDSP; and more.

Money and Relationships Workshop

One of the top three topics most couples argue about it money. It’s not surprising, given that we all have different histories and beliefs about money. In this free workshop, you’ll explore your personal relationship to money, and learn communication strategies to talk about money with a partner, whether you are in a relationship or not, or whatever stage your relationship is at.

It doesn’t matter if you come on your own to this workshop or with a partner–you’ll leave with a greater understanding of your relationship to money; having learned strategies to improve your relationship with money; and better able to communicate about finances with a partner.

Tax-Filing Clinics

Doing our taxes isn’t most people’s idea of fun! But to access many government benefits, and the free money they can provide you every month–you need to have filed your taxes. You might have barriers to filing taxes: perhaps English isn’t your first language, or you feel you can’t do it, or your income has been very low, or you lack the identification documents you need to file.

No matter why you haven’t filed your taxes, we can help, and possibly help you get access to benefits, including the:

  • Canada Child Benefit
  • Canada Learning Bond
  • Child Disability Benefit
  • Disability Tax Credit
  • Canada Disability Savings Bond

We will help you get any ID you need, and our experts will complete file your taxes with you right there at the clinic. We usually have representatives from the Canada Revenue Agency at the clinic too, to answer any questions. We will post more information about what to bring to a Tax Filing Clinic at our next upcoming event!

Saving for Your Child’s Education: RESP Workshop

Like most parents, you want to give your children the best education and start in life possible, but post-secondary education is expensive. How to afford it? This free workshop will help you learn all about Registered Education Savings Plans (RESPs): how to start an RESP account at the bank, how to add money to it over time, and how to access free money the government offers to match and top-up what you save.

Children whose parents have RESPs are more likely to attend post-secondary school and have less debt when they graduate. This workshop can help you start saving for your child’s education today, so they have the best opportunity to have a post-secondary education.

How To Save For Retirement Workshop

Do you worry about saving for retirement? Do you worry you can’t save, haven’t saved enough, or have no idea how much you should save? At this free workshop, we will help you learn how to develop a retirement plan and start saving, no matter what your income.

We’ll explain government funding sources for retirement, including the Canada Pension Plan (CPP), Old Age Security (OAS) and the Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS). And you’ll learn about plans that can help you save on taxes now, while you save for retirement, including Registered Retirement Savings Plans (RRSPs) and Tax Free Savings Plans (TFSAs).

Credit and Debt Workshop

We live in a world of cheap, available credit. But credit can lead to debt, sometimes enormous debt that can ruin you financially and emotionally.

In this free workshop, we’ll explore the good and bad types of credit; when it’s wise to use a type of credit; what your rights and responsibilities are when using credit; and how to build a good credit score and why it matters. Learn how to avoid getting trapped by debt when using credit, as well as your options for how to get out of debt if you’re in it and don’t know what to do or where to turn.
