VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Child Minders – Family Day Program (Vancouver Family Preservation)
ABOUT FAMILY SERVICES OF GREATER VANCOUVER (FSGV)
Founded in 1928, FSGV is a charitable organization which works to inspire and support people in our community who live with personal, social and systemic barriers to participating fully in our society. We offer a broad range of programs and services across Vancouver and the Lower Mainland to help people to reach their full potential. This includes: counselling and therapy for women and children who are victims of violence, food and shelter, detox and safehouses for homeless youth, parenting skills training, community engagement through language classes, community kitchens, financial empowerment, seniors programs and more.
VOLUNTEER POSITION DESCRIPTION
We are in need of 1-2 volunteer child minders to help look after children from 0-4 years of age while parents attend psycho-educational groups during the Family Day program. Family Day operates Thursdays and Fridays from 9-1 pm. Child minders are required between 10:30 am -12 pm.
- An Early Childhood Education (ECE) student would be preferred, but it is not mandatory
- Knowledge of ages and stages of children newborn-4 years of age
- Experience caring for babies and young children
- A calm and friendly demeanor
- Being non-judgmental
- Good health, ability to lift and carry babies
- Good problem solving skills
- First Aid training is an asset
If your application is successful, a Criminal Record Check must be completed (at no cost to you).
Location: Vancouver Family Preservation & Reunification Services
4103 Fraser Street, Vancouver BC V5V 4E9
Hours: Up to 3 hours per week, Thursdays & Fridays from 10:30 am to 12 pm.
Open ended – Family Day runs several sessions throughout the year from September to July. However, babies and young children need continuity, and it is to their benefit to be cared for by someone who is familiar to them. The group will span 8-10 weeks and will have spaces between sequences.
