VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY: Volunteer Friend – Richmond Family Friend Program
ABOUT FAMILY SERVICES OF GREATER VANCOUVER (FSGV)
Founded in 1928, FSGV is a charitable organization which works to inspire and support people in our community who live with personal, social and systemic barriers to participating fully in our society. We offer a broad range of programs and services across Vancouver and the Lower Mainland to help people to reach their full potential. This includes: counselling and therapy for women and children who are victims of violence, food and shelter, detox and safehouses for homeless youth, parenting skills training, community engagement through language classes, community kitchens, financial empowerment, seniors programs and more.
ABOUT THE RICHMOND FAMILY FRIEND PROGRAM
Many immigrant families feel isolated in their new country. They face the stress of raising children in a place where they don’t know the systems, and they often have language barriers. They feel alone and could use a friend who knows the community.
The Richmond Family Friend program matches struggling immigrant parents of young children with a mentor in their community. The mentor is a volunteer who will connect with the parent(s) as a friend and supporter to help them get better acquainted with their community. (Learn more about the Richmond Family Friend program.)
