Description
After being connected by your MCFD social worker, Project Parent’s family counsellors work with you on goals specific to your family’s needs, including nurturing healthier relationships, creating a safe environment, and meeting everyone’s physical and emotional needs. We’re here with judgement-free, compassionate, and steady support, typically working together for 6-12 months. Through parent education and counselling for you and the whole family, we’re with you every step toward building a safe and supportive foundation at home.

Vancouver Family Preservation & Reunification Services

Description
There are so many situations that can lead to families facing separation, instability, and other crises – whatever you’re facing, our highly-skilled, specialized family counsellors are here with truly judgment-free, compassionate support. We work with you to come up with a plan (informed by MCFD’s outlined goals) that’s all about your family’s needs and then we’re with you, every step of the way. With counselling for you and the whole family as well as group programs for parents and caregivers, we’re here with consistent, steady support when you need it.

Family Trauma Program/TASA
Eligibility
Families with children under the age of 18 who have experienced trauma. Must live in Richmond or New Westminster.
Description
The Family Trauma Program is here for your family when you need it. This program is for children, youth and caregivers who have experienced overwhelming events. Our counsellors center the work on helping you make sense of your experiences; in practice, this means learning how trauma might impact behaviour, emotions and relationships. Our counsellors support you in building coping skills, developing a stronger sense of safety and confidence, and healing at a pace that feels good to you. It’s okay if you’ve never been in counselling, we’re here to answer your questions and help you figure out what’s next.

Stopping the Violence
Eligibility
Adults of marginalized genders—including cisgender and transgender women, Two-Spirit, non-binary, agender, and gender-diverse people who have experienced childhood abuse, violence in relationships, and/or sexual assault. Specific eligibility requirements depend on where you live. Must live in the city where you are accessing services.
Description
If you’re a woman, nonbinary, Two-Spirit, or trans, and you’ve experienced violence (it doesn’t have to have been recent), STV might be the support you’re looking for. This program has individual and group counselling options, all based on helping you reconnect with yourself. We’ll also help you develop safety and support plans, learn the cycle and signs of abuse, and strengthen your self-care and self-advocacy skills. Ultimately, we want to support you in self-discovery, empowerment, and connection—so you can move toward your future, on your terms, with a sense of power and confidence.

Healthy Connections
Eligibility
People who are pregnant or who have recently welcomed a baby and are experiencing the impacts of past or current trauma. Pregnant or new parents who live in Vancouver may self-refer to the program by calling or emailing our team.
Description
If you’re pregnant and feeling worried about how you’ll be as a parent—you’re not alone. If you’ve faced things like abuses and other traumas, this might be an especially big worry. FSGV’s Healthy Connections program really is here to make sure you don’t face these fears alone. Beginning as early in pregnancy as possible (and continuing until your child’s third birthday), we can support you with counselling, community-building group programs, and connecting you with other supports that fit with your goals. You deserve support that helps you feel confident and connected—we’re here to bring that.
