Youth Employment & Education Supports

FSGV offers a range of employment and education supports for youth. From financial education to pre-employment workshops, we’re here to help you build the confidence and skills you need for your next steps.

Street Youth Job Action (SYJA)

Crews of two to four go out and do jobs in the community. We provide training, all necessary safety equipment, clothing, and lunch.

Jobs include:

  • Needle sweeps: cleaning up different parts of the city by safely collecting drug litter
  • Street cleaning and garbage removal: collecting litter and recyclables in the Vancouver downtown core and West End

This program is a great fit for youth looking for job experience and the chance to develop skills while receiving additional supports while figuring out what’s next. Interested in joining? The best way is by letting staff know at the Directions Drop-In Centre. Have questions? You can get in touch with our team at:

Workshops at Directions

Each week there are workshops, clinics, and meetups at Directions for youth for pre-employment and life skills. We host events with local schools and work and certification programs. Our workshops change from month to month, but we regularly cover topics like:

  • Applying for housing, roommate skills, and renters’ rights
  • Writing resumes, applying for jobs, and interview skills
  • Grocery shopping and cooking
  • Self-care practices

Our workshops are a great fit for youth who want to learn more foundational skills for independent living, employment, and more and get support while they take those next steps.
