Financial Empowerment coaches and facilitators know that money isn’t always simple or easy. That’s why we offer judgement-free workshops and one-on-one coaching on money topics to make sure you can learn the information and skills you need. Whether it’s budgeting, registered savings accounts for the future (TFSAs, RRSPs), learning how to file taxes, understanding and managing credit or figuring out which benefits to apply for—FE is here to help you build confidence with money.
Coaching
Financial Empowerment at FSGV offers free, confidential, one-on-one financial coaching. No matter what financial issues you’re facing or questions you may have, our coaches are empathetic, experienced advocates, who are here to help you.
Our free coaching service is available to low-income individuals (including seniors and youth), newcomers, couples, and families.
Common supports we provide in coaching sessions:
- Creating and sticking to a budget
- Managing on a fixed income
- Financial goal setting
- Dealing with credit and debt
- Protecting yourself against frauds and scams
- Preparing and filing taxes
- Saving for the future: a (grand)child’s education, retirement, and so on
- Accessing and understanding benefits
- Understanding registered saving and investment plans: RRSPs, TFSAs, RDSPs, and RESPs
Please note that our Financial Empowerment Coaches are unable to file your taxes for you; they are only able to assist in walking you through using tax filing software.

Tax Clinics
Throughout the year, Financial Empowerment teams up with other organizations to host community tax clinics. At these, you can ask questions, prepare, and file your taxes. These supports are free. To see upcoming dates and registration requirements, please visit the events calendar.
If you’re unable to attend a tax clinic but still want support on your taxes, our financial coaches can also meet with you one-on-one to help you prepare your taxes. Please note that in coaching sessions, we can only help you prepare and are unable to help you file.
