Housing & Shelter
10K
Eligibility
This program requires a referral from your MCFD social Worker and is for youth ages 16-19 who are involved with Vancouver Aboriginal Child and Family Services (VACFSS) or the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD).
Description
We know that having a safe, stable place to live makes all the difference. If you’re transitioning out of care, this isn’t always a given. That’s why 10K is here. We offer independent housing and onsite support with Youth Workers for 1-2 years, to give you a launching pad. Here, you can work on the skills you want, learn your way around additional community resources, and plan for and take your next steps—with support. You’re not on your own.

Description
Each night, the Directions Drop-In Centre has a free hot dinner and runs a 12 bed overnight shelter. You can shower, do laundry, and get help with things like IDs, but we have more for you too. Every week we have activities like 2SLGBTQIA+ community nights; job, renting, and other life-skill workshops; movie and game nights; art and craft hangouts; health and safety workshops; and more. There are always snacks and someone around to help you connect with healthcare, housing, and employment services, and more. You can bring your pet (we have a special room for them) and we are a low-barrier site. We won’t turn you away if you use substances or are struggling with your mental health. If you’re between 13 and 24, we’re here for you. 24/7/365.
