On Wednesday, May 15, 2024 Family Services of Greater Vancouver hosted our second annual webinar in honour of Victims and Survivors of Crime Week.
Terriea Harris got things started with a land acknowledgement and a grounding exercise. Then, we were joined by The Honourable Grace Lore who shared her passion and projects with us, followed by introductions from our very own Maria Howard (our CEO) and Cheryl Melder (our Program Director of Family, Trauma, and Victim Supports).
The main presentation for the webinar was given by Brenda Lochhead, a long-time Victim Support Worker, counter-exploitation expert, and community educator and advocate. She led us through some fundamentals of supporting youth survivors of exploitation and what their journey through seeking justice in court might look like, including common obstacles, conversations to have, and specifics to be prepared for.
