VIOLENCE, TRAUMA, AND ABUSE
VISAC – Vancouver Incest And Sexual Abuse Centre
VISAC provides services to adult women who have experienced sexual abuse and/or childhood physical abuse. VISAC also provides Child and Family Counselling comprising short term crisis intervention and long term therapy for children and youth who have experienced sexual abuse/trauma or sexual exploitation. Services are also available to siblings and non-offending parents/caregivers.
Trauma and Sexual Abuse Counselling Centre (TASA)
TASA provides support to children and youth under 19 who have experienced sexual abuse, as well as support to their non-offending family members. Services are also offered to adult women who have experienced sexual abuse and/or childhood physical abuse.
PEACE (Prevention, Education, Advocacy and Counselling)
The PEACE program is available to children and youth ages 3 – 18 who have been exposed to domestic violence. This program focuses on improving the child/youth’s emotional health and self-esteem through individual, group and/or family therapy.
Victim Support Services (Richmond)
Support to victims of crime and trauma, including domestic violence, sexual assault, physical abuse, or elderly abuse
Safety planning as well as emotional and practical support to victims of crime and trauma, and helps reduce the risk of further victimization. Victims are walked through their rights under the Victims of Crime Act and provided with assistance and information about the criminal justice system process.
Stopping the Violence (New Westminster)
Counselling for women who have experienced childhood sexual abuse and relationship violence
Sexual abuse and trauma counselling services for women who have experienced childhood sexual abuse and relationship violence. Available to New Westminster residents aged 19 and over.
Healthy Connections: You and Your Baby (Vancouver)
Counselling and support for pregnant women with past trauma
Program for pregnant women and moms with a history of trauma which may affect their ability to bond with their child. Support comes through individual counselling, relationship counselling, plus group and community support. Available to Vancouver residents.
Elder Abuse Program (New Westminster and Burnaby)
Services to seniors who experience abuse
Counsellors providing specialized service to seniors living in New Westminster or Burnaby who experience abuse within power-based relationships. This program is a partnership between FSGV and the New Westminster Police Service.
Community Based Victim Service Program (New Westminster and Burnaby)
Support for men and women who have experienced violence or childhood abuse
Assistance for New Westminster and Burnaby residents who have experienced intimate partner violence, sexual assault, childhood abuse, or criminal harassment. Services include safety planning, information about Victims of Crime Act rights, assistance with the criminal justice system process, plus emotional and practical support.
