On Wednesday, February 12, 2025 Family Services of Greater Vancouver teamed up with Vancouver Public Library for a resource fair pop-up event to let the community know about supports available for families.
Running from 10am until 2pm, coaches from Financial Empowerment and family counsellors were on-site talking with people, answering questions, and running activities for children and parents. Families and individuals from all over the city popped by, with questions about saving for retirement and education, about how to join the parenting groups we offer, and the full catalog of FSGV programming and resources. Alongside us, VPL children’s librarians and staff were there, answering questions about the programming they offer too and making resource suggestions for families of all kinds.
Like last year, all throughout the event, in the Central Library’s atrium, there were tables set up for little ones to stop by with their caregivers to colour and fill the Wish Trees. We were so excited to add origami to the event this year! From 11am to 1pm, Origami Yuki Canada led families in folding adorable origami creations.
This year our event actually did a lot of growing. In addition to the origami, we hosted four workshops. Twice, the FSGV counsellors led ‘Grooving and Grounding,’ a dancing activity all about teaching little ones (and their caregivers) emotional regulation tools. FSGV Financial Empowerment coaches hosted two short workshops for families. One was for parents looking to learn more about RESPs and one was centered around customizing piggy banks with children while teaching them about saving.
Thanks to HDR Photography, we have some precious photos to share from the day – enjoy!
