Haven Announcement

Published: May 30, 2023

Directions Youth Services, a division of Family Services of Greater Vancouver (FSGV), is pleased to announce a 6-month pilot project for the Directions Youth Haven program.

Effective May 17, 2023, Haven is accepting youth ages 16-21, up until a youth’s 22nd birthday. As before, this 5-bed emergency housing resource will continue to support youth with complex mental health, substance use and/or other challenges and barriers. Our goal is to provide a welcoming environment that fosters connection to services that can improve a youth’s overall health and wellbeing — meeting youth wherever they are at in their journey.

Haven and its wrap-around supports are provided in collaboration and partnership with Vancouver Coastal Health Authority (VCHA) and the Ministry for Children and Family Development (MCFD). This pilot is a direct response to a need acknowledged by FSGV, VCHA and MCFD: for supports beyond age 19 for our most vulnerable youth in our communities. Together, FSGV, VCHA, and MCFD acknowledge that Haven offers a unique service within a continuum of care that can help bridge the gap between a youth’s 19th birthday and their successful transition into adulthood.
